Background
After graduating in English at the University of York, Jonathan used his language skills working for four years in France teaching English. He completed a masters degree in law at University College London in 1994 and was admitted as a solicitor in 1996.
Jonathan has maintained his interest in languages. He is fluent in French and Spanish and is now learning German and Turkish. He has lectured in law in French to the Lille Chamber of Commerce.
Experience
Since being admitted as a solicitor, Jonathan has specialised in employment law. He has worked for a number of heavyweight regional firms, all of which have been recommended in the Chambers Guide for Employment law. In 2004, together with Neill Thomas, he founded ThomasMansfield LLP. The firm has grown to be one of the largest firms of solicitors in the United Kingdom exclusively specialising in employment law.
Jonathan has represented clients in both the Employment tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal.
Jonathan advises both employer and employee clients on day to day employment law issues including breach of contract, unlawful deductions from wages, termination agreements, unfair dismissal, restrictive covenants, TUPE, redundancy, discrimination, bullying, harassment and employment tribunal/civil court claims. He also drafts and reviews contracts of employment, directors service agreements, policies and procedures. Jonathan regularly advises senior individuals.
